The Sigma 7 spacecraft traveled 160,000 miles completing nearly six orbits and returned to Earth at a predetermined point in the Pacific Ocean nine hours, 14 minutes after launch. Schirra was safely aboard recovery vessel within 37 minutes after landing. The flight continued to prove the feasibility of prolonged weightlessness in space.
