Development of Sputnik 1 began in November 1956. When the craft was successfully launched in October 1957, it became the first man-made object to orbit the Earth. From this craft, the Soviets gained information on the Earth’s atmosphere, tested methods of satellite tracking and communications, and determined how satellite electronics performed in space.
The Sputnik Shock package includes: - One snap together plastic model (no glue needed to assemble) as pictured
- 2-sided, full-color, illustrated educational information sheet, which also includes assembly instructions
