Have you ever wondered what kind of jobs that people at NASA have to help get the astronauts ready for a space mission? Well now your little ones can have an opportunity to see behind the scenes of what goes on at NASA to get our astronauts ready for space. Alli Westover, a former NASA engineer and new children’s author has written a book called, My Daddy Works at NASA.

As a little girl, Alli Westover always dreamed of being a part of the space program. So, with stars in her eyes and a desire to work with the astronauts, Alli forged ahead. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 1996. Shortly thereafter she was hired by Wyle Laboratories to work at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. She used her degree to train astronauts and cosmonauts on various science experiments, develop medical equipment for the International Space Station, and test the astronauts' health upon the landing of the Space Shuttle. She also had an opportunity to experience weightlessness on the KC-135 while performing science experiments.

Alli loves to share her NASA work experiences with children. She was able to do this through National Engineers Week, an education program where she shared her love for the space program with young people, hoping to create a desire in their hearts for math and science. After having her daughter and reading numerous children's books to her, she realized that there were not many books about NASA or the space program for little ones. Thus, the idea to share with young children what grownups do at NASA was born and this book was created.

My Daddy Works at NASA describes what moms and dads do at the space center in preparation for future space missions. This wonderfully illustrated book has 16 fun-loving illustrations that give the smallest explorer an opportunity to dream of working at NASA one day as an engineer, scientist, doctor, technician or astronaut.

My Daddy Works at NASA is a good read for young children. My Daddy Works at NASA spreads the jobs at NASA among both genders, alternating what a daddy does with what a mommy does. Boys and girls can realistically dream about one day working at NASA, too, just like Alli Westover did.

Alli Westover takes young children behind the scenes of NASA. Brenton Packer's adorable cartoon-like illustrations help explain Alli's information. Alli's comments are easy to follow and informative. This is a book I'd give as a Christmas gift because of its educational value.
